Estuarine tidal flats, Salt marshes Wetland vegetation Estuary of Kitakami-gawa and Nagatsura-ura Communities of emergent plants such as Phragmites communis, Zizania latifolia and Typha latifolia, and willow shrubs are found along the estuary of Kitakami-gawa (river). In Nagatsura-ura occur sandy shore plant communities and Porphyra tenera (a threatened species).
Insects Estuary of Kitakami-gawa (Oppa-wan) Brackish riverside marsh located in the lowest reaches of Kitakami-gawa. It is the known northernmost limit of Mortonagrion hirosei. "Kasumisasakiri"-- a species of tetigoniids, Nabis sp. (provably undescribed), Nabis ussuriensis and Anisosticta kobensis have been observed.
Benthos Estuary of Kitakami-gawa and Nagatsura-ura These areas provide habitat for Corbicula japonica, Ruditapes philippinarum, Scopimera globosa and Helice tridens. Nagatsura-ura supports Helice tridens, Deiratonotus cristatus and Batillaria cumingii.
