Brackish lakes with lagoon tidal flats, Tidal flats, Shallow sea areas, Seagrass beds, Seaweed beds Marine algae Sendai-wan Habitat of Undaria pinnatifida, which coexists with kelp and Eisenia beds. The sea areas are rich in biodiversity.
Wetland vegetation Lagoons in Sendai-kaihin (including Matsushima-wan, Gamo-higata, Idouragata, Hiroura and Torinoumi) Communities of Elymus mollis-Carex kobomugi, C. scabrifolia, Suaeda maritima, Phragmites communis and Triglochin asiaticum. Porphyra tenera (a threatened species) grows in Phragmites communis communities at Torinoumi.
Seagrasses Matsushima-wan Zostera beds in semi-closed bay.
Benthos Tidal flats in Matsushima-wan Habitat of Ruditapes philippinarum and Crassostrea gigas.
Geese and ducks Gamo-kaigan Wintering site of Branta bernicla.
Benthos Gamo-higata Habitat of Neanthes japonica, Nuttalia olivacea and Helice tridens. Abounds in salt marsh benthos, including Cerithidea rhizophorarum (northernmost habitat) and some species of assimineids (such as Angustassiminea parasitologica).
Benthos Idouragata and estuary of Natori-gawa Habitat of Polychaeta and Brachyura species.
Benthos Hiroura With sizable tidal flat and reed beds, the site offers proper habitat conditions for benthos. It is important as a habitat for Batillaria multiformis.
Benthos Torinoumi Habitat of Batillaria cumingii, B. multiformis, Nuttalia olivacea, Neanthes japonica and Ruditapes philippinarum.
