Hakkoda-san Wetlands
(Tashirotai-shitsugen, bogs and snow patches in Hakkoda-san, and
vicinities of Suiren-numa, Ouse-numa and Tsuta-numa) |
Areas around Tsuta-onsen
(spa) are dotted with large and small marshes including Aka-numa,
which is located at a distance from others. These marshes are collectively
called Tsutashichi-numa (which means seven marshes of Tsuta). Many
insects of great interest have been observed in the nearby forests.
The areas are known as a cornucopia of insects in Aomori Prefecture.
They offer habitat for Gerris lacustris and Notonecta
reuteri. The Hakkoda mountain system consists of two volcanoes,
one in the south and the other in the north, between which extends
a tract of swamps that contains Suiren-numa. There occur various
water beetles including Leucorrhinia dubia orientalis, Alloperla
ishikariana, Notonecta reuteri, Mesovelia thermalis, Gerris babai,
Potamonectes anchoralis, Platambus sawadai, Acilius japonicus, Cybister
japonicus, Gyrinus reticlatus, Semblis melaleuca and Oligotricha
spicata. |
