Wetland vegetation Sarobetsu-genya (Sarobetsu-shitsugen, Naga-numa and neighboring marshes, Penke-numa, Panke-numa and Kabuto-numa) Sarobetsu-genya hosts communities of Rubus chamaemorus-Sphagnum papillosum, Moliniopsis japonica-S. papillosum, Scheuchzeria palustris-Rhynchospora alba, Drosera anglica-Sphagnum pulchrum, Moliniopsis japonica-Carex middendorffii and Phragmites communis-Calamagrostis langsdorffii, and forests of Alnus japonica. Marshes abound in communities of various hydrophytes including Potamogeton natans, Brasenia schreberii, and Trapa japonica.
Aquatic plants Marshes in Sarobetsu-kaigan These marshes are formed on Wakkasakanai sand dunes. They abound in Nuphar spp.
Geese and ducks Sarobetsu-genya (Penke-numa, Kabuto-numa and Kyu-teshio-gawa) Stopover sites of Anser fabalis middendorffii.
Reptiles and amphibians Sarobetsu-genya Habitat of Lacerta vivipara.
Freshwater fish Habitat of Hucho perryi in Sarobetsu-genya Sarobetsu-gawa and other rivers and marshes in Sarobetsu-genya, where Hucho perryi inhabits.
Insects Sarobetsu-genya Habitat of Onthophagus gibbulus, Graphoderus zonatus and Aeschna subarctica.
Benthos Estuary of Teshio-gawa Habitat of Corbicula japonica.
Benthos Marshes in Sarobetsu-genya (including Penke-numa and Panke-numa) Habitat of brackish benthos such as Corbicula japonica.
