Rich in species diversity of subtropical freshwater fish, such as Crenimugil heterocheios. Toxotes jaculator and Lutjanus goldiei are found in Urauchi-gawa (river), and Rhyacichthys aspro in the upper reaches of Omija-gawa and Nakama-gawa.

The site supports diverse creek and wetland insects and is rich in terms of species variety and abundance. Many aquatic insects endemic to Yaeyama Islands are found in abundance, including Rhinocypha uenoi, Macromia urania, Chlorogomphus iriomotensis, Rhagovelia esakii, Microvelia genitalis, Micronecta hungerfordi, Pseudovelia hirashimai, Hebrus nipponicus, Saldoida armata, Playnectes chujoi, Orectochilus yayeyamensis and Stenelmis ishiharai. Various insects are found, including riparian species such as Sphyracephala detrahens and Acontosceles yorioi, and forest species such as Lycocerus hiroshii and Cicindela psilica luchuensis.
