Shimajiri-irie Habitat of Kandelia candel, Bruguiera gymnorhiza, Rhizophora mucronata and Avicennia marina. Rare distribution site of mangrove tree species. Geographically rare distribution site of mangrove forests. Representative and endemic distribution site of mangrove forest (ecosystem).
Crustaceans Mangrove forests of Shimajiri in Miyako-jima Mangrove forest at Shimajiri is the largest in scale in Miyako-jima, and increasing sedimentation in recent years has been leading to the forest expansion. It supports many useful aquatic animals including Scylla spp., and Acanthopagrus sivicolus.
