Yakabi-jima (island) serves as an important spawning
ground for green turtle Chelonia mydas and loggerhead turtle
Caretta caretta. It is also one of the rare places where
Dinodon semicarinatus (a species of the family Colubridae)
is observed to come down to the beach to feed on the turtle hatchlings.
The island is also surrounded by well-developed coral reefs. |
