Habitat of Kandelia candel, Bruguiera gymnorhiza and Rhizophora mucronata, the forest of which is collectively designated as a National Natural Monument. Rare distribution site of mangrove tree species. Geographically rare distribution site of mangrove forests. Representative and endemic distribution site of mangrove forest ecosystems. High diversity of mangrove forest ecosystems.
Crustaceans Mangrove forests and estuary of Gesashi-gawa in Higashi-son The Gesashi Mangrove Forest has been designated as a National Natural Monument. It supports new Alpheus species (four brackish species), and fish species such as Periophthalmus argentilineatus and Periophthalmus modestus. As the river flowing into the forest supports RDB species such as Geothelphusa aramotoi, G. sakamotoana and Candidiopotamon okinawense, the entire river basin is important.
