Mangrove forests and estuary of Gesashi-gawa in Higashi-son |
The Gesashi Mangrove Forest has been designated
as a National Natural Monument. It supports new Alpheus species
(four brackish species), and fish species such as Periophthalmus
argentilineatus and Periophthalmus modestus. As the river
flowing into the forest supports RDB species such as Geothelphusa
aramotoi, G. sakamotoana and Candidiopotamon okinawense,
the entire river basin is important. |
