Wetland vegetation Asajino-shitsugen (including Mokeuni-numa, Kamuito-numa and Hyotan-numa) The site constitutes an important wetland that retains the original form of the North Okhotsk coastal wetland. Particularly valuable are swamp forests of Picea glehnii. Swamp forests of Alnus hirsuta are also valuable. There are communities of Rubus chamaemorus-Sphagnum magellanicum, Carex limosa-S. apiculatum, Moliniopsis japonica-C. lasiocarpa var. occultans, Myrica gale var. tomentosa-C. lasiocarpa var. occultans and Phragmites communis-Calamagrostis langsdorffii as well as forests of Alnus japonica. It supports also various aquatic plants including Potamogeton natans, P. fryeri, P. pusilla, P. crispus, Utricularia macrorhiza, U. minor and Sparganium glomeratum. Emergent plant communities found are of Menyanthes trifoliata, Scirpus tabernaemontani, Zizania latifolia, Sparganium erectum, and Nuphar japonicum. Abound also Iris laevigata, Eriophorum vaginatum, Veratrum stamineum, and Thalictrum aquilegifolium. Rare Carex species such as C. diandra, C. traiziscana, and C. curta are found. Cladophora sp. grows in Kamuito-numa.

Geese and ducks Poro-numa and Sarukotsu-numa Stopover sites of Cygnus columbianus and Anser fabalis middendorffii. Every year, 2,000 to 3,000 C. columbianus stage at these lakes during their migration. With some others occasionally using the site as a temporary shelter, sometimes 7,000 to 8,000 C. columbianus are sighted.
