Aquatic plants such as Sciripus iseensis and Zostera japonica grow healthy in brackish water, forming some of the largest communities in Japan.
Shorebirds Estuarine
tidal flats of
Yoshino-gawa
Birds are observed in fairly large population sizes during the spring and autumn migrating seasons. Visitation of more than 1% of the minimum estimated population of Charadrius alexandrinus, and more than 0.25% of that of Pluvialis squatarola, Charadrius mongolus and Calidris alpina has been recorded. Visitation of Tringa guttifer, Numenius minutus, N. madagascariensis and T. totanus (all RDB species) has also been recorded.

A number of salt marshes are scattered in this long and extensive brackish zone. An outstanding number of Uca arcuata is found. There occur also Neritina violacea, Clistocoeloma merguiense and Pinnotheres bidentatus.
