Wetland vegetation Megumanuma-
shitsugen
Important as the northernmost mire in Hokkaido. The dominant vegetation includes Eriophorum vaginatum and Hemerocallis middendorffii var. esculenta. The site supports communities of Phragmites communis-Calamagrostis langsdorffii and Ledum palustre ssp. diversipilosum-Sphagnum fuscum, and forests of Alnus japonica. Empetrum nigrum var. japonicum and Andromeda polifolia are also found.
Geese and ducks Onuma Stopover site of Cygnus columbianus. Since about a decade ago, conscious efforts have been made to lure this species. Today, 30,000 to 40,000 C. columbianus arrive in April and October.
