Wetland vegetation Bekambeushi-shitsugen Extensive fen. It hosts communities of Phragmites communis-Calamagrostis langsdorffii, Myrica gale var. tomentosa-Carex lasiocarpa var. occultans and C. lyngbyei, and forests of Alnus japonica. A bog has developed in the middle reaches of the Bekanbeushi-gawa (river). It hosts communities of Ledum palustre ssp. diversipilosum-Sphagnum fuscum, S. papillosum and Scheuchzeria palustris-Rhynchospora alba. Also found are Carex gynocrates, C. oligosperma, C. laxa and Eleocharis margaritacea.
Other birds River basin of Bekambeushi-gawa Habitat of Grus japonensis. Fourteen per cent of the total number of the nests built is found here.
Freshwater fish Habitat of Hucho perryi in Konsen-genya This wetland site encompasses large and small rivers in Konsen-genya, such as the Ichani-gawa, Shibetsu-gawa, Tohoro-gawa, Shunbetsu-gawa, Tokotan-gawa, Nishibetsu-gawa, Furen-gawa, Biwase-gawa, Bekambeushi-gawa, Kushiro-gawa and Akan-gawa, and lakes and marshes in the vicinity, all of which are inhabited by Hucho perryi and Phoxinus percnurus sachalinensis.
Freshwater shellfish Nemuro Wetlands, Bekambeushi-shitsugen and Kushiro-shitsugen Valvata spp. and Pisidium spp. Rich in species diversity of boreal shellfish.
