Extensive fen. It hosts
communities of Phragmites communis-Calamagrostis langsdorffii,
Myrica gale var. tomentosa-Carex lasiocarpa var. occultans
and C. lyngbyei, and forests of Alnus japonica. A
bog has developed in the middle reaches of the Bekanbeushi-gawa
(river). It hosts communities of Ledum palustre ssp. diversipilosum-Sphagnum
fuscum, S. papillosum and Scheuchzeria palustris-Rhynchospora
alba. Also found are Carex gynocrates, C. oligosperma, C.
laxa and Eleocharis margaritacea. |

This wetland site encompasses
large and small rivers in Konsen-genya, such as the Ichani-gawa,
Shibetsu-gawa, Tohoro-gawa, Shunbetsu-gawa, Tokotan-gawa, Nishibetsu-gawa,
Furen-gawa, Biwase-gawa, Bekambeushi-gawa, Kushiro-gawa and Akan-gawa,
and lakes and marshes in the vicinity, all of which are inhabited
by Hucho perryi and Phoxinus percnurus sachalinensis. |
