Wetland vegetation Notsuke-hanto and Odai-to Salt marsh vegetation includes communities of Triglochin maritimum, Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia, Spergularia marina and Potentilla egedei var. grandis while vegetation of freshwater marsh, or swamp, includes communities of Scirpus tabernaemontani, Alisma plantago-aquatica var. orientale, Hippuris vulgaris, Eleocharis mamillata-E. kamtschatica, Typha latifolia, Menyanthes trifoliata, Carex lasiocarpa var. occultans and Eriophorum vaginatum. Sphagnum magellanicum, Ledum palustre ssp. diversipilosum, Calamagrostis stricta var. aculeolata and Carex omiana occur in the E. vaginatum communities.
Seagrasses Notsuke-wan The largest and extensively developed Zostera marina communities in Japan. Major fishing ground of Pandalus kessleri. The Z. marina communities are found virtually everywhere in the bay. Colonies of Z. marina and Z. asiatica are formed in the bay. It provides habitat for Pandalus kessleri.
Shorebirds Notsuke-zaki and Odai-to Relatively many bird species are observed in relatively large population sizes during the spring and autumn migrating seasons. Visitation of more than 1% of the minimum estimated population of Arenaria interpres and Heteroscelus brevipes, and more than 0.25% of that of Pluvialis squatarola has been recorded. Visitation of Tringa totanus and Gallinago hardwickii (both RDB species) has also been recorded.
Geese and ducks Notsuke-wan Stopover or wintering site of Cygnus cygnus, Branta bernicla, Aythya marila, Bucephala clangula and Anas penelope.
Other birds Notsuke-hanto and neighboring rivers Habitat of Grus japonensis. About 7% of the total number of the nests built is found here.
Freshwater fish Habitat of Hucho perryi in Konsen-genya This wetland site encompasses large and small rivers in Konsen-genya, such as the Ichani-gawa, Shibetsu-gawa, Tohoro-gawa, Shunbetsu-gawa, Tokotan-gawa, Nishibetsu-gawa, Furen-gawa, Biwase-gawa, Bekambeushi-gawa, Kushiro-gawa and Akan-gawa, and lakes and marshes in the vicinity, all of which are inhabited by Hucho perryi and Phoxinus percnurus sachalinensis.
Benthos Notsuke-wan and Odai-to Important habitat of Pandalus kessleri and Ruditapes philippinarum.
