Wetland vegetation Tofutsu-ko Communities of Triglochin maritimum, T. palustre and Potentilla egedei var. grandis occur in salt marshes, while communities of Phragmites communis, Carex lyngbyei and Moliniopsis japonica-Myrica gale var. tomentosa, and forests of Alnus japonica are found in freshwater marshes.
Seagrasses Tofutsu-ko Habitat of Zostera japonica.
Geese and ducks Tofutsu-ko Stopover site of Anser fabalis serrirostris, Cygnus cygnus, Anas penelope, Mergus albellus and M. serrator.
Other birds Abashiri-ko and Tofutsu-ko Habitat of Grus japonensis.
Insects Koshimizu-genseikaen Habitat of Decticus verrucivorus, Erythromma humerale, Coelambus impressopunctatus hiurai and Noterus clavicornis.
Benthos Mokoto-ko, Tofutsu-ko, etc. Important habitat of Corbicula japonica and Crassostrea gigas. Ruditapes philippinarum also occurs in Tofutsu-ko.
