Wetland vegetation Saroma-ko Salt marsh vegetation (communities of Salicornia europaea, Glaux maritima var. obtusifolia, Triglochin maritimum, Spergularia marina and Aster tripolium). The coastal grassland communities of Rosa rugosa, Hemerocallis middendorffii var. esculenta, Lilium maculatum ssp. dauricum and Malus baccata var. mandshurica.
Seagrasses Saroma-ko Japan's largest lagoon Zostera beds. Extensive Zostera marina communities.
Geese and ducks Saroma-ko The site supports Cygnus cygnus and C. columbianus. About 800 C. cygnus and some 200 C. columbianus are sighted in late November.
Benthos Saroma-ko Remains of the oyster reef found on the lake bottom. Important habitat of Mizuhopecten yessoensis, Pandalus kessleri and Crassostrea gigas.
