of Tobi-shima
More strongly affected by the warm current than other coastal areas of the Yamagata Prefecture, nearshore waters of Tobishima island support larger number of algae species varieties than any other coastal areas in the Prefecture. They support Chorda filum, which grows to a length exceeding 6 meters. While large varieties of southern species are found, boreal common algae species, Neodilsea yendoana, also occurs in these areas.
